Henko Roasted Black Sesame Oil (Kuro Goma Abura). 140g
In Kyoto dialect, henko means someone stubborn and strong-willed. It was the nickname of Yutaka Yamada, who founded Yamada Seiyu, and his family sesame house wears it as a badge of honour. Three generations on, they still refuse to rush.
This oil begins with black sesame seeds, roasted until their aroma fills the room, then pressed for the first, purest oil. From seed to bottle, the process takes about a month. The result is darker, earthier and bolder than everyday sesame oil, with a deep roasted note that lingers like woodsmoke on an autumn evening.
Perfect with
Red meat, fatty fish like salmon or mackerel, and marinades. Drizzle a few drops over a just-rested steak, brush it onto grilled fish, or whisk it into a dressing. Add it at the end of cooking to keep the aroma bright.
Made in Kyoto, Japan. Store in a cool, dark place.
